How it Works

Professional

I am a teacher. After 34 years of working with all levels of students, kindergarten through university, and working in Staff Development with peers, I will always be a teacher. Most of my career was happily spent in the company of middle school students, who were some of my best teachers.

Several years ago, I set out on a path of self-discovery that led me back to school to enroll in a Masters program in counseling. By combining my innate talent for working with people, my numerous and varied teaching experiences, and the specific skills and knowledge of counselors, a new career path began to emerge for me. As a consultant, presenter, and counselor, I have the opportunity to affect many lives and also have them influence mine. One truth that I know is this: all that we touch, we do change.

I have presented seminars and workshops at state and national conferences from coast to coast, at school districts’ whole-staff institutes and inservices, for a private mental health seminar producer, for non-profit organizations, and for single-school staff meetings.

I am a freelance writer and member of Writers of Kern, a branch of the California Writers Club. I’ve had articles published in hobbyist magazines, educational journals, and local publications. Currently, I am working on a series of self-care articles and a collection of travel stories.

Additionally, I am honored to have been invited to be a guest author on the blog, Educated Visions.  This organization’s mission is to bring together the worlds of education and coaching to create positive change in our schools.  It is exactly what I would love to see happening -- for the benefit of all.

Personal

I divide my time between the Central Valley of California and the Oregon Coast.  I am the adoring parent of two caring, intelligent, and successful adult daughters.   Motorcycling is one of my favorite activities, and I’ve put over 108,000 miles on my bike. I may ride solo or with friends and members of our California Sunblazers Chapter of Women on Wheels ®.

Other satisfying leisure activities include traveling in the USA and abroad, learning to speak Spanish, participating with several book groups, concocting delicious homemade soups, and connecting regularly with family and friends.
